SUPRA GROM SERIES # 4
'HARLEY WINS AND MACKEY TAKES THE SERIES'
The fourth stop of the Supra Grom Series was held this past Saturday, 25th February at Stoney Park, Telegraph Point, NSW.
This week's winner, 12 year old Harley Clifford showed why he was definitely in the running for the Supra Grom Series Title, however, 19 year old, Troy Mackey took 2nd and the Series Title, of Australia's Best Grom.
The head to head battle again came down to the two most consistent competitors of the Series, Harley going out first, busting out a dum dum, Whirly, KGB, Back lipped the step up slider, boardslid the flat bar and slamming the win with a 360 off the double up.
Mackey, feeling the pressure went out to show him why he was the leader of the Supra Grom Series so far. Schooling the sliders with a 270 out of the flat bar, Slid to backlip the A-Frame, and only falling on a KGB and an indy tantrum to blind, and finishing it off with a 540 off the double up.
The final Series presentation took place at the Telegraph Point Tavern where Harley Clifford took the win for the event, and Troy Mackey took second place. Matt Galvin and Mitch Langfield taking out the tie for 3rd and Tye Clifford, Lachlan Burgess, Dane Tiene and Chris Yarrow tying for 5th place. Again, Ocean & Earth, Masterline, O'Brien and Liquid Force supplied us with some awesome gear to give away to grom finalists. And Supra Boats gave away the stack of cash!
As the Supra Grom Series Champion, Mackey was ecstatic, commenting that "I am so stoked to win the Title of Supra Grom Champion, especially as it is the first ever Series of its kind".
Mackey was in fine form after his win, partying on the night with the older boys, and most of the parents.
Supra Grom Girls (19 years & under) were throwing down Railey's, and backside 270 off sliders, while the Junior Grom Divisions (14 years and under) were busting out 360's, Crow mobes and back rolls. The Girl Grom Divisiion (14 years and under) were throwing out Toeside Indy's, tail grabs and heelside nose grabs.
King of Wake 2005, Josh Sanders commented that "The Supra Grom Series is one of the most rewarding things I have done in wakeboarding, seeing how stoked the kids get and their obvious love for the sport, it definitely makes the hard work well worth it."
Honorable mentions go to Johno Harris, Matt Galvin, Mitch Langfield, Tye Clifford, Lachlan Burgess for consistency in the Supra Grom Division.
9 year old, Tony Iacconi won Most Improved Rider of the Series
