Young Head on Young Shoulders – 12 year old Harley Clifford Takes WIN

Carrara, QLD, 5th of February 2006-

The Supra Grom Series had it's first stop of it's four week series in Carrara QLD, this past Saturday on the Nerang River, situated in the heart of the beautiful Gold Coast. With 15,000 dollars up for grabs it showed which riders could handle the pressure when there was money on the line. Josh Sanders current world number one wake boarder decided it was time to put a series together for the up incoming Grom's, to give them a taste of the action and a bit of the lime light and build wakeboarding at its fundamental stages.

This series has been put together for the benefit of the up in coming kids to learn what it is like to ride in a professional series and to feel how the pressure changes when there is money up for grabs. No boat company has ever given to the grom's there chance to fully shine and created a full blown series for them around Australia. It is great to see the high calibre of riding we have in our own backyards. Brett Eisenhaur and Greg Falzon popped there heads in to lend a hand along with a big hand from Dean Smith, Daniel Watkins, Nathan McGahey and Scotty Mackey who were in the boat judging and driving. With a massive field of talented riders and one full professional rider on board for the series, the level of riding was mind blowing. In the finals it came down to 8 riders in the head to head format. It was tough competition to make the top 8 but the cream of the crop rose to their.

The head to head final come down to young 12 year old Harley Clifford, from Raymond Terrace and 19 year old Pro rider Troy Mackey from Melbourne. With Troy having the most experience in this kind of format we thought the win would go to the older of the two, but like I said before when there is money up for grabs anything is possible. Troy Mackey went out strong but butt checked a couple of moves and was playing it safe and went down on a scarecrow, which opened it up for young Harley, when Troy fell again on his double up it meant that it was anyone's competition. Harley went out strong, KGB's, Tootsie roll, even a dumb dumb but falling on his double up meant that it was in the judges hands to figure out who would be taking away the cash.
