Gravity Games H20 Heats Up

New Vodafone world-class Skatebowl announced

Gravity Games Press Release

The ultimate international action sports, lifestyle and music festival, Gravity Games H20 presented by Vodafone, is expected to heat up in Western Australia this year with a sizzling new summer date announced at the official opening of the Vodafone McCallum Park Skatebowl.

The Gravity Games H2O presented by Vodafone, will hit Perth's McCallum Park foreshore in Victoria Park from 7-10 December 2006 but for local action sport enthusiasts it will continue year-round with the world-class new Skatebowl.

Gravity Games H20, presented by Vodafone, will see more than 80 elite action sport athletes from across the globe descend on the sunny shores of Western Australia compete for more than AUD $150,000 in prize money across three medal events of Wakeboarding, Thundercats and for the first time, Jetski racing.

Western Australian sporting icons, Western Force players Matt Hodgson and Josh Graham officially unveiled the new Skatebowl today saying it will be a fantastic opportunity for local skaters to practice their tricks ahead of the Games.

Set beside the picturesque waters of the Swan River, the Vodafone McCallum Park Skatebowl will also be the venue for the Gravity Challenge Competition, an amateur competition featuring skate, in-line and BMX disciplines.

Gravity Games H2O has been supported by Vodafone since its debut in Perth in 2004 and Darren Hayes, General Manager Vodafone WA expects the event will be even bigger and better this year.

"At Vodafone we are passionate about supporting sports in Western Australia - from the West Coast Eagles, the Western Force and Gravity Games H2O, through to community sporting initiatives.

"Gravity Games H2O is a fantastic spectator event for action sports enthusiasts, but it's even better that locals can get involved through the new Skatebowl and the Gravity Challenge Competition," he said.

Mayor of The Town of Victoria Park, Mick Lee said the new Skatebowl is a unique facility, which will offer skaters the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and abilities in the fantastic surrounds of McCallum Park.

"The sponsorship of Vodafone has greatly assisted the Town and together both organisations should be justifiably proud of this excellent facility. It is the cutting edge of skate parks in the State and provides a tremendous recreation option for young people.

"This project has been in the pipeline for a number of years and it is very exciting to see it completed and ready to be enjoyed in the lead up to Gravity Games H2O," he said.

The Western Australian State Government has been instrumental to bringing Gravity Games H20 to Perth through Events Corp.

"The State Government is proud to support the Gravity Games H2O for the third consecutive year in 2006," said Tourism Minister Sheila McHale.

"The Gravity Games H2O is an eagerly anticipated feature of EventsCorp's See It Do It Calender that will captivate crowds of all ages and backgrounds.

In 2006 Gravity Games H2O spectators will also see the return of the high flying action of the Vert demonstrations in Skateboarding, BMX and Inline, as well as the death defying antics of the awesome Freestyle Motocross Riders and much more.

"Last year's Gravity Games H20, presented by Vodafone, was a huge success with record crowds, gripping competition and TV coverage reaching over 400 million people worldwide," said Sean Nicholls, Managing Director of event organiser Octagon.

"This year promises to be even better with the introduction of Jetski racing and an expanded entertainment program making Gravity Games H20 an action-packed four day festival for people of all ages," he said.

Gravity Games H2O, presented by Vodafone, is FREE to the public and is the only event of its kind to take place in Australia! It is an event sure to impress, so don't miss any of the action in December down at Western Australia's McCallum Park.
